Internal audits are a requirement of many international standards including ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001. For many organisations embarking on the certification journey, internal audits are an unfamiliar yet essential task. They are performed inside the organisation to measure internal strengths and weaknesses against its own procedures and methods, and/or against external standards.
These internal audits are usually performed by auditors employed by the organisation being audited, but who have no vested interest in the audit results or area being reviewed. The output is an ISO internal audit report.
