Adviso’s Shared Work Approach for achieving AS/NZS 4801 Certification is a perfect option for small sized businesses that want to play a significant role in the project and keep consulting costs to a minimum. Companies that have limited resources or a tight deadline for obtaining certification may opt for the consultant to perform more work on their behalf.
Both the ISO 45001 and AS/NZS 4801 Occupational Health and safety management system standards provide guidance to organisations and individuals responsible for safe systems of work. Which one you choose will depend on your legal obligations.
- ISO 45001 is a voluntary standard and is not cited in any Australian legislation yet
- AS/NZS 4801 is cited in a range of Australian legislation, with certification being compulsory for some high-risk businesses
So far the Regulator has not commented whether ISO 45001 is considered equivalent to AS/NZS 4801 as a certified safety management system. For this reason, we suggest clients who need AS/NZS 4801 as a legislative requirement, or as a contract condition maintain this system for now.
Having said that, we believe the ISO 45001 standard delivers an advanced framework for business improvement and risk management. We encourage our clients to closely review ISO 45001 and consider adopting the principles of ISO 45001 and implementing these alongside their existing system.
- Keep AS/NZS 4801 for now, and start phasing in ISO 45001, with a goal to achieve certification within 3 years
We would be happy to discuss your requirements with you.
